You can find us in Motueka, a town on the South Island of New Zealand, located on Tasman Bay, at the mouth of the Motueka River. Originally inhabited by the Māori, the town’s name is derived from a Māori word meaning ‘weka island’, with ‘weka’ referring to a small, flightless bird found in the area. 1827 saw the arrival of the first European to the area – Jules Dumont d’Urville – but it was only in 1842 that permanent settlement began.
